Fr Chris writes:
Thank you to all who celebrated our climax to the Easter Celebrations – “Pentecost”. Numbers were low, but we celebrated well! With the lovely sunshine in this past week, I have been reminiscing on my eleven years of ministering & living in Bexhill, where the sea front was the same distance from me as the Royal Holloway University is now! There was nothing I enjoyed more than a lovely walk by the seafront, sometimes stopping at “Di Paolo’s” for a beautiful Gluten Free handmade gelato (ice cream).
Many years back, I was walking along a sandy part of Bexhill Seafront with two priest friends. We were in discussion (inspired by the vast greatness of the Sea). We were talking about the mystery, awe and wonder of God. If the truth be known, we were also exploring ideas for our Sunday homily – Trinity Sunday was fast approaching! As it was a hot day (and we were enjoying our ice-creams) our conversation wasn’t getting very far. We caught sight of a small boy. Like me (at his age) he had dug a huge hole in the sand with his spade and kept running down to the water’s edge to fill his plastic red bucket with water and then take it back to empty it into the hole. We stopped and watched in amusement, our cool ice creams in hand. He spotted us and recognised me! One of my friends smiled and asked what he was doing. His Mum smiled too as her son seriously told us that he was emptying the ocean into his hole!
As we walked on, we tried to continue to prepare our minds for the Sunday Homily, keen to inspire our congregations (I was very conscientious in those days)! One of my friends hit the nail on the head, “You know that we were amused at what that child was trying to do; isn’t that just what we were doing in our discussion about God? It is just as impossible for us to fully understand the mystery of God as it is for the child to put the water of the sea into that hole. Our minds are like tiny thimbles, whereas the reality of God is greater than the mighty ocean.” “So profound”, I thought, “the mystery of God is so full of meaning that we will never finish our task, as we continue to grow in knowledge, wonder and awe!”
Dear friends, parishioners, First Communion families, Baptism families, Newly Confirmed – let us never be lazy or superficial in our efforts to understand the mystery and greatness of God. May we continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit and let us continue to journey forward boldly and in love. Happy Trinity Sunday!
May we say to God …
“To you glory and praise for evermore …”

CORPUS CHRISTI
The gift of the Body and Blood of Christ is indeed a great gift to the Church. Jesus is our true and eternal Priest, who instituted the pattern of an everlasting sacrifice and was the first to offer himself as the saving Victim., commanding us to make this offering as his memorial. As we eat his flesh that was sacrificed for us, we are made strong (in His love), and as we drink his Blood that was poured out for us, we are washed clean. (CF Preface 1 of the Most Holy Eucharist). May our celebration next weekend be worthy of Christ’s great gift to the Church.

“HELP”
So many people are struggling in our locality and parish (as well as globally). It is important to keep our mental health in check. Thank you for the continued support to the Runnymede Food Bank, with items being left each week at the back of our churches. For the past month we have run an insert in the parish newsletter about “Consolation And Bereavement Support”. In addition, our Pastoral Care coordinator looks after the huge umbrella of needs and each week her contact details are in the newsletter, including visits and Holy Communion. Much informal pastoral care and support takes place after our weekday Masses in St. Joseph’s chapel. Some join ecumenical initiatives, diocesan initiatives and other organisations to help with outreach. Never allow things to bottle up and if you are seeking help with confidential difficulties there are many you can speak to – including a priest! Our Parish has a dedicated “Safeguarding Rep” – Pat Simpson, who will soon have a dedicated email address. Diocesan Safeguarding Support is via 01293 651148 or safeguarding or via www.abdiocese.org.uk/safeguarding/home
